The cannon destroyer was a good, cheap solution at the time of its creation. However, over the years, modern anti-tank missiles have increasingly outperformed barreled guns. In 1983, therefore, the guns were removed from the cannon destroyers and they were instead armed with the American TOW anti-tank guided missile system. As part of this conversion, the vehicles were also provided with additional armor. (TOW = Tube Launched Optically Tracked Wire Command-link Guided Missile)
The resulting vehicle was called "Jaguar 2". However, it had the weak point that, for technical reasons, the rockets could only be loaded and fired when the roof hatches were open.
The Jaguar 2 was fully suitable for night combat right from the start, and the TOW starter could also be used remotely from the vehicle.
