Belgian siege cannons

Belgian siege cannons
Belgian siege cannons

These two Belgian cannons are booty from the First World War.

When Army Structure 5 was taken over by the Bundeswehr in October 1995, Defense District Command (VBK) 35 moved from Detmold to Augustdorf, to the GFM Rommel barracks.

As a reminder of the time in Detmold, after all almost 37 years, the VBK 35 carried its two "traditional weapons" and the memorial stone from 1871 to the new place of duty in Augustdorf. Both the cannons and the memorial stone were symbols of the Bülow barracks ("55 barracks") in Detmold. Today they are registered monuments of the municipality of Augustdorf.

The tradition of the former 6th Westphalian Infantry Regiment "Graf Bülow von Dennewitz" is thus being continued in the GFM-Rommel barracks, since there are no longer any Bundeswehr units stationed in Detmold.
