As exhibit of the month - June 2025, we present to you the Marksman's cord, which is on display in the Military History Collection (MGS).
The exhibiting Infantry Regiment, Graf Bülow von Dennewitz No. 55 (6th Westphalian), included the former "Lippe Riflemen," who were assigned to the 6th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 55 according to the Prussian Military Convention of May 27, 1867.
In memory of "General Friedrich Wilhelm Bülow von Dennewitz," who twice savior of Berlin in the Napoleonic Wars, Emperor Wilhelm II ordered the regiment to be named after him on January 27, 1889.
The first introduction of marksmanship cords as awards for excellent marksmanship occurred in the Prussian Army in 1864. As is the case today, there were three levels: bronze, silver, and gold.
From 1892, the marksmanship cord was introduced throughout the German Army.
