As exhibit of the month - February 2025, we present to you the shelter Bw 50, which is still present on the barracks grounds.
There were usually 4 of these shelters per functional building. 25 soldiers could sit, and there were lying areas for 25 soldiers.
As long as there was electricity, the air filter system was operated automatically. After a nuclear strike and the electrical system failed, 2 soldiers had to constantly operate and ventilate the system manually.
The Military History Collection still maintains one of these former shelters. This can be visited with groups, with prior registration.
Would you like to know what these rooms look like and how they worked? Why do many visitors say that in an "emergency situation" it is better to sit in the garden with a good bottle of wine?
Then visit the MGS of Panzer Brigade 21 in the General Field Marshal Rommel Barracks.
